SiLWIR™ Silicon Protective Windows for Machine Vision & Industrial Imaging

Silicon Protective Windows for LWIR Imaging, a Durable, Cost-Effective Germanium Alternative

Germanium is typically the go-to material for long-wave infrared (LWIR) optics because of its high refractive index and low dispersion, but its high cost and sourcing difficulties limit its use in cost-sensitive or large-scale applications. Chalcogenide glass offers an alternative but lacks durability and mechanical strength.

SiLWIR™ Features:

  1. Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC)
  2. Oleophobic Coating
  3. BBAR Anti-Reflection (AR) coating on ‘both’ sides

SiLWIR™ Protective Windows can withstand harsh environments and temperatures up to 200° C, are suitable for weight-sensitive applications, and adhere to MIL-F-48616 and MIL-C-48497C standards for severe abrasion resistance. With a Knoop Hardness of 1150, they’re low density, robust, lightweight and less prone to breakage.
