Converting IR LIDAR – a 3D-scanned image – to create a 3D model or point cloud has found many uses in in the following applications:
- Automotive, Shipping, Railway and Aerospace
- Energy Generation, Oil and Gas industries
- Agriculture, Forestry and Mining
- Heavy industry, Mold and Machine Manufacturing
MidOpt® Optical Filters designed for Industrial Imaging offer many benefits in 3D scanning and other pattern recognition applications. They help to strengthen the signal-to-noise ratio, producing more detailed structure and a finer analysis of the subject. These filters can also serve to pass and block certain wavelengths, reduce the impact of reflections from shiny surfaces and help balance light.
Over shorter distances, blue light scanners are also often used. These scanning devices operate using LEDs. However, ambient light can create significant “noise” in these applications. MidOpt® high-performance, “blue range” filters can reduce unwanted glare, reflections, and ambient lighting interference while maximizing signal-to-noise ratio. This allows for improved contrast and overall clarity in the imaging system, enabling more reliable detection, inspection, and analysis.

Because of the angle imposed by the field of view (FOV) of short focal lengths lenses often used in 3D imaging and scanning, the passband shifts and allows short wavelength ambient light to overwhelm the subject. In contrast, peak transmission of MidOpt StablEDGE® filters is not significantly altered, and effects due to this short shifting are minimized.
Filter Mounting Solutions and the 25.4® C-Mount:
In addition, MidOpt® also offers the widest selection of filter mounts for any system specifications, including the 25.4® C-Mount, which threads directly into any C-Mount camera between the lens and sensor.
